Melissa Ramirez, MD’25 to Present Original Research at SAEM

Melissa Ramirez has been selected to present as the first-author of her original research at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting in Austin, TX in May 2023. Miss Ramirez participated in the inaugural Underrepresented in Medicine Emergency Medicine Summer Research Program at Maimonides Medical Center during the summer of 2022. She is a second year medical student at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.
Her ambition is to pursue Emergency Medicine and work with underserved populations in New York City. She desires to continue doing research on the prominent healthcare disparities and biases in medicine and ways to decrease them. Melissa has worked with patients in various hospitals and urgent cares in New York, including Brookdale Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center, Stony Brook University Hospital, and Mount Sinai.
Her recent research project that will be presented at the SAEM Annual Meeting focuses on the trends of gender disparities in residency applications to Emergency Medicine:
